Change chart type dynamically from Column to Line graph?

I am developing several charts with column type and sub type as stacked. There is a requirement from the users that they want an option to choose the type of chart.

Is it possible to change chart type dynamically from say Column type to Line type based on user option in front-end?

Any help will be appreciated.

The closest you can get directly in RS at this point is to define multiple charts with different types and conditionally only show one of the charts based on a parameter selection.

I created 5 charts on one report. but i dont want to execute the report for each change.

all the charts are using the same dataset.

Can i show /Hide all the charts except the choosen one by clicking on a textbox?

Yes you could do that by adding a drillthrough navigation action on the textbox. Add a drillthrough parameter which determines which chart should be shown in the drillthrough target report. Note that you could also setup the navigation action to drill to the current report with a certain parameter value.

i want to avoid it: one time execution and after it all the graphs changes will be on the client side.

Chaching Sqldatasource datasets... can it be done? and a performance question.

I'm using visual basic coded datasets right now, and caching them, so as all of my web app users access the cache once the first person's gone to my site and initiallized the page.

The reason I wonder about this because I'm not sure how you go about referencing one of those datasets, because you can't give them a name/id. And I've not found mention anywhere of you being able to do so.

The real point or question I'm trying to get at is to see which performs better , or uses less requests back to the server for the data as a lot of my data will be repeatedly used by all of my users and so I'd like to save myself from using as many repeated connections as possibles in regards to using a typed dataset versus filling my controls from a sqldatasource?

Cell Data Security question

I have a cube that needs to filter out data for a group of users based on the company they work for.

I thought about using the following MDX expression in the Cell Data section in the Edit Roles window for this particular cube:

Ancestor([Dim OPCO].CurrentMember,[OPCO]) IS [COMPANY NAME]

The issue is that the users have to select there particular OPCO COMPANY Name in which ever tool they are using otherwise they will only see NA as the value for all measures.

I would like to filter the data somehow so they do not need to select the particular company they are working for. I would then setup different role groups based on the users company.

Is there some other way of accomplishing this type of task using a filter or scope command?

Hi Steve,

Once you have your roles in place, how about using member security to only permit the company users to see the member for their company? (And make this the default member for that particular role - I assume this is possible, but have yet to do it myself!).

An alternative is to have separate cubes for each company, which I can appreciate is a considerable amount of overhead.

This sounds like a good solution, how do you set the default propertie in the role. I tried the the following MDX but I get an error when I try to open the Cube.

Under default Member for that particular dimension

[Dim OPCO].[Opco Desc].MemberValue =[Company Name]

I am pretty new to MDX so if this statement is incorrect please let me know. Also is there a good place to get actual examples of MDX vs. the description provided through most of the MS MSDN help sites.

cdata all columns automatically

I have an application that is extremely dynamic.
Users can type in their own sql statements and run queries however they
want.
Is there a way using SQL to automaticall wrap all the columns with a
CDATA notation?
EX:
Query
SELECT field1, field2, field3 FROM myTable FOR XML ...
Desired result
<row>
<field1><![CDATA[field1 data]]></field1>
<field2><![CDATA[field2 data]]></field2>
<field3><![CDATA[field3 data]]></field3>
</row>
**PLEASE NOTE** I have no control of the SELECT statement, the users
can select whatever they want. So i cannot use the regular EXPLICIT
col!cdata notation :(And why would you want to wrap the data into a CDATA section? CDATA sections
are there for lazy hand authors of XML documents that do not want to write
< or & everytime they need to write < or &. On the output-side CDATA
should not make any difference whatsoever since FOR XML automatically does
the needed entitization.

with CDATA sections. Note however, that there is really no reason to
