Challenge revisisted
I'm trying to port som old access code to asp.net and the access solution ha
s a couple of queries to sql server that I'm not sure work as expected. I t
hink the idea of the query is to identify if the same event (slaugher of rei
ndeer) is registered in two
different places (field 5 in my last challenge), but two duplicate rows diff
ering only by place does not get selected by the query.
The query is as follows:
SELECT ImportID FROM Temp t WHERE ( EXISTS (
SELECT Year, Code1, Code2, Date FROM (
SELECT DISTINCT Year, Code1, Code2, Date , Place FROM Temp ) SUBQUERY
WHERE ( t.Year = SUBQUERY.Year )
AND ( t.Code1 = SUBQUERY.Code1 )
AND ( t.Code2 = SUBQUERY.Code2 )
AND ( t.Date = SUBQUERY.Date)
GROUP BY Year, Code1, Code2, Date
HAVING (COUNT(*) > 1) ))
Can anyone see if this query does anything useful?, or perhaps give me a que
ry that selects rows with same Year,Code1,Code2,Date, but with different Pla
ce.
The other query is essentially the same, using Zone instead of Place

Hi Morten,
I'm not sure what you want eactly. If you want to find year / code1 /
code2 / date combinations for which more than one row exist, use:
SELECT Year, Code1, Code2, Date, COUNT(*)
FROM Temp
GROUP BY Year, Code1, Code2, Date
HAVING COUNT(*) > 1

Certificate security and Dynamic Routing
I've been reseaching on SSB and have read quite a number of posts on this forum that closely relate to what im trying to achieve. I have a solution im designing that ideally consists of a central server (SQLENTERPRISE) that will receive messages asynchronously from remote clients (SQLEXPRESS) spanning a wide geographical region over a GPRS virtual private network on a TCP/IP transport. This ideally is a star and spoke architecture and requirements dictate high level security, no loss of messages whatsover as well as high reliability and scalability.
To meet the security requirement in the context of the above scenario, i was thinking implementing both dialog and endpoint security using certificates would be ideal. I've downloaded some samples and have encountered problems simulating the above scenario on 3 machines (I Server & 2 Clients). Client1 sends messags successfully, the 2nd client doesnt possibly because the certificate on the server matches that to client1 since i ran that script first. How do i make it that the Server shares one certificate with all remote clients? Or is there a better way to configure SSB to work in this scenario?
Secondly i have hard coded the Server's IP Address in the Routes created on the Clients. Considering this is over a GPRS Virtual network, how can i make the clients dyamically "discover" the Server? The idea here is to make adding and setting up of new remote clients easy so that you can just plug them in to the existing network
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Centralised Database
I've been tasked at looking into a solution for a global data project for my
company.
The company uses some software that requires a local database, the local
databases are going to be located in Australia, US, & UK, the local database
s
will have exact copies of each others schema. They would like the UK &
Australia databases to update the US database (effectively making the US
database centralized).
Conceptually whats the best way of doing this? My thoughts would be to have
the 3 local databases and create an additional database to centralize the
three using DTS or replication... ...there would be no overlapping data in
any of the three databases (except identity based keys), however data would
be updated. The only caviate I have to adhere to is the centralized databas
e
must be no more than 30 minutes out of date (preferably no more than 15
minutes).
I've had a good year and half experience of being a DBA, but have never
really had to touch on replication and distributed data, so any thoughts or
views you have would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
BenI think your case is the simplest one, no data overlapping, you can use any
way to update data.
I would like use webservice, it is easy to control and no problem on any
firewall.

CASS Certification and Postal Discounts
our industry. As a part of this move we are converting all our documents
over to SQL Reports. We have also been contemplating using a CASS certified
product to help us get some substantial postal discounts for our mailings.
Is anyone aware of a product that can take the data being fed into a
reporting server and queue the reports, sort and certify, and then print to
allow postal discounts?
I realize that I am simplifing the process some but I am trying to find out
if there are any vendors servicing this market yet.

"Okay, I signed in this box. How do I wipe the ink off my screen now?"I don't know of a product that will do what you want...
However, you might think of this in two parts..
Certifying the addresses in the database,
sorting/printing/printing the CASS Cert documents
The first will be much easier than the second...
In order to get the lowest rate you must print the documents in the same
group together... Docs will print in the order that they complete, so you'd
probably have to buy/write something to group reports into a single printing
batch..
Another thing you might try is to print each group of reports one at a time,
don't start the second group until the first has completed...
In any case - you'll probably have to work very hard if each report is
specific to the address, instead of printing the same report and delivering
it to many people.
